St. George Fire Department Sues Its Own Firefighters: How to help
ST GEORGE, LA — In an extraordinary legal move that firefighters across the nation are calling dangerous and unprecedented, the St. George Fire Protection District No. 2 is actively suing over 130 of its own firefighters—public servants who have devoted their lives to protecting the community.
This legal action, initiated by Fire Chief Gerard Tarleton and supported by the St. George Fire Board of Commissioners, is a taxpayer-funded assault on union members and working families. It is believed to be the only known case in U.S. history where a fire department has sued its own firefighters for seeking lawful pay under state statutes.
Local 4524 urges the public, media, lawmakers, and legal professionals to speak out, get involved, and help restore accountability.
